Progress in astrobiology is driven by telescopes on the ground and in space, and by new insights on how life emerged on Earth and its diversity. The topics in this course range from the science of how exoplanets are detected, to the chemistry that supports the argument that the ingredients for life are common in the Universe.

Astrobiology degree

Astrobiology is the study of life in the universe and encompasses the origins of life and its presence elsewhere in our Solar System and beyond. Astrobiology seeks answers to the question "Are we alone in the universe", the answer to which will have profound implications for the human race. Leading astrobiologists across the globe provide an overview of their respective fields and highlight current and emerging topics in astrobiology. Particularly timely given the upcoming wave of space missions focused on astrobiology. This is a required course for all students in Dual-Title Degree Program in Astrobiology, but is open to any qualified undergraduate or graduate student. There is no specific prerequisite.

Astrobiology is an expanding, interdisciplinary field investigating the origin, evolution and future of life in the universe. Tackling many of the foundational debates of the subject, from discussions of cosmological evolution to detailed reviews of common concepts such as the 'Rare Earth' hypothesis, this volume is the first systematic survey of the philosophical aspects and conundrums in the The program curriculum is designed to provide both a deep training in a home field, together with thesis and research work in Astrobiology. Students participate in our activities, by interacting with our members and fellow students, taking our courses, meeting our visiting distinguished scientists, and completing thesis work and writing research papers.

Explore the chemistry and geology of life on earth, especially life in extreme environments, and make astronomical observations while developing tools to study the habitability of other planets. Foster a unique, interdisciplinary view of the Earth and the universe beyond by combining the fields of Earth science, chemistry and astrophysics in this program.

The Australian Centre for Astrobiology It is the only centre of astrobiological research in Australia and is an Associate Member of the NASA Astrobiology Institute, one of only two in the world.
